FORMAT

The 2022 US Masters will be held over Thanksgiving Weekend from November 23-27, 2022. The USM is an official US Chess National Championship event which features a $20,000 guaranteed prize fund. Enjoy your stay at the lakeside Hilton Charlotte University Place. Take a walk on the lake, shop, dine and more.

The event runs alongside the 2022 NC Open, an open event with sections for players of all ratings and $11,000 in prizes. Players coming early may also wish to play the Fall Elite Blitz held a day prior.

90 minutes plus a 30 second increment from move 1

ENTRY FEES

GM, Foreign IMs, Foreign WGMs: Free, no deduction from prize

U.S. IMs, and WGMs: $199 by November 1, $219 by November 15, $249 after

Regular Entry: $249 by November 1, $269 by November 15, $299 after

Junior (U20) with Peak Ratings Under 2200: $150 more than regular entry

Refunds: Withdrawals are subject to a 5% transaction fee by November 22, no refunds after November 22.

 CONDITIONS

  • 2675+ FIDE GMs are eligible for 5 nights shared hotel plus a $1000 minimum prize OR 5 nights single hotel plus a $500 minimum prize.

  • 2600+ FIDE GMs are eligible for 5 nights shared hotel plus a $500 minimum prize or 5 nights single hotel.

  • All GMs, Foreign IMs, and Foreign WGMs are eligible for 5 nights shared hotel or $250 in conditions.

  • Conditions must be arranged in advance. Contact Dr. Walter High (contacts below) as early as possible.

  • Players receiving conditions may not take byes or withdraw without the expressed permission of the organizers.

SPECIAL NOTES

  • Parents and spectators are not permitted in the playing area and nearby hallways.

  • Up to 3 optional half-point byes which must be requested at least 90 minutes before round one begins.

    • Norms not possible if taking a bye.

    • Byes not available to conditioned players without expressed permission of the organizers.

    • All byes requested after the the start of round one are zero point byes

  • In case of a tie for first place, the top two players on "average rating of opposition, cut one" tiebreak will play a blitz playoff of two G/5; +2 games, followed by an Armageddon game as specified by the Chief Arbiter.

  • Boards, sets, clocks provided (must use our equipment)

  • November FIDE ratings used for pairings and prizes.

CCC FAIR PLAY MEASURES

  • Parents and spectators are not permitted in the playing area and nearby hallways.

  • Read CCC Electronic Device Policy

  • Live game broadcasts will be on a delay.

  • Tournament staff will be equipped with wands and other anti-cheating equipment.

  • Stronger quality and quantity of tournament directors, arbiters, and organizers than other events.

  • Games may be submitted for thorough review by Dr. Ken Regan's FIDE-approved algorithm prior to submitting the event for rating.
