OVERVIEW

The Rated Scholastic is 4 round tournament with over 25 awards. This tournament is open to all players in grades K-8 rated under 1500. The event is US Chess rated.


Rated Scholastic is a qualifier event to the Tournament of Champions on May 4.

  • Must be in grades K-8 (ages 13 and below)

  • All players must have a valid US Chess membership

TIME CONTROL

G/20; increment 10

Each player receives 20 minutes plus a 10 second increment to complete the game.



ROUND TIMES

Round 1: 10:00am

Round 2: 11:00am 

Round 3: 12:30pm

Round 4: 1:30pm

Approximate end time/awards: 2:45pm

TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS

Players that earn a "plus score" of 2.5 or more points out of 4 qualify to the Tournament of Champions on May 4.

BYES

If you need to skip a round, you can request half-point byes for up to 2 rounds. Byes must be requested at registration or via email before the tournament starts. Once the tournament begins, all requested byes are 0 points.

If you plan to play all rounds, do not request any byes.


RULES

  • Limited to the first 62 entries.

  • Registration closes at 9:30am or when the capacity limit is reached.

  • US Chess rules apply

  • US Chess live ratings used for pairings and sections.

  • Two optional half-point byes available, request at registration.

  • Weighted wooden sets, digital clocks provided for all sections.

  • Players may only play up if within 100 points of next section cutoff.

  • Tournament of Champions

    • Students who finish with 2.5/4 or more qualify to play in the TOC.

    • Separate registration required

  • 100 Point Rule: Players may only play up if their rating is within 100 points of the section limit. Example: A player rated 900 may play in the under 1500 section but not a player rated 899.

  • Refunds: $5 fee for refunds before the event; $10 fee for same-day; no refund after event begins
