CHARLOTTE COBRAS
OVERVIEW
The Charlotte Chess Center is sponsoring the Charlotte Cobras team in the 2023 PRO Chess League.
The PCL is an international online chess league featuring 16 teams from the strongest chess cities and countries in the world and a $150,000 prize fund. The league will feature the top players in the world including Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura.
FORMAT

The PCL uses an “Elimination Swiss” system to determine 8 teams for the Playoffs from the 16 initial teams.

Each week, team managers select 4 players from their roster to compete on their lineup.

2550 FIDE maximum rating cap per lineup.

At least 1 woman must play on every lineup.

Matches are 4 vs 4 all-play-all using a 10+2 rapid time control.

Each player plays all 4 of the players on the other team.

The first team to 8.5 points wins the match.

In case of a tied match (8-8), round 4 is repeated with a 3+2 blitz time control.

Weeks 1-5 team vs team pairings are paired by Swiss rules.

Teams that lose 3 matches are eliminated.

The surviving 8 teams after week 5 will make the playoffs.

The Semi-Finals (4 teams) and Finals will be played as live finals in May.
SCHEDULE
The Cobras' matches will be on weekdays during February and March 2023. The schedule will be updated as more details are known.
WHERE TO WATCH
All matches will be broadcasted live on Chess.com. Cobras matches may also be covered on the CCC or GM Naroditsky Twitch Channels.
