IMPORTANT NOTES

The Charlotte ALTO Championship is only open to players age 21+ as of March 10, 2023.

Registration Cap: registration closes at 130 players

100 Point Rule: Players may play up if their rating is within 100 points of the section limit. Example: 1300+ to enter Under 1800 Section

Byes: Players may take up to 2 optional half-point byes, request before round 1. Byes allow a player to skip a round they cannot otherwise attend. All byes requested during the tournament are zero points.

Refunds – all withdrawals by March 8 will be refunded minus a $10 transaction fee. No refunds after March 8

Unrated players must enter the Under 1400 Section and are eligible for place prizes (1st-3rd).

Boards, sets, clocks provided (must use our equipment).

All sections are USCF-rated. Championship section is also FIDE-rated and uses FIDE rules.

March 2023 US Chess regular OTB ratings used for pairings and prizes in all sections.

Plaque to first place in each section, based on US Chess cumulative tiebreak and "average opposition rating, drop one" tiebreak if necessary.
FAIR PLAY MEASURES

No spectators are allowed in the playing area.

Live game broadcasts will be on a delay.

Tournament staff will be equipped with wands and other anti-cheating equipment.

Stronger quality and quantity of tournament directors, arbiters, and organizers than other events.

Games may be submitted for thorough review by Dr. Ken Regan's FIDE-approved algorithm prior to submitting the event for rating.
