MICHAEL ROSENBERG

Junior Coach

Originally from Greenville SC, Michael attended undergraduate school at East Tennessee State University and then after obtaining a masters degree at Auburn University, he moved to Charlotte to start work as an athletic trainer. Michael soon decided to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy and after graduating from the Medical College of Georgia, he moved back to Charlotte. Through his work with both children and adults, he has always had a passion for teaching, including leading continuing education courses across the USA.


Michael had been intrigued with the idea of retiring one day to a coastal town and spending time playing chess but never took the time to learn the game. Just over 5 years ago while on a family vacation, his son taught him how the pieces moved and he was suddenly hooked to learn the game and play as often as possible. After the vacation, he found out about the weekly adult chess learner series being held at the Charlotte Chess Center and started attending. Michael has enjoyed all the chess opportunities offered at the center and the ongoing pursuit to become a stronger chess player.
