John learned to play chess from his father as a child but then left the game until his son joined the chess club in elementary school.
He and his wife took on the role of parent sponsor, and John taught the new students each year. John really enjoyed getting back into chess and the opportunity to teach, and take, students to chess tournaments.
John also spend 5 years teaching middle and high school math in the public schools before obtaining his masters degree in statistics and working in the financial services industry.
John grew up in Colorado but now calls Charlotte home with his wife and two teenage sons.
John has been teaching part-time now for the CCC since mid 2021 and enjoying the challenges of playing over-the-board games at the center and expanding his chess knowledge.
