Head Coach and Tournament Director

Jim Hodina recently moved from Iowa where he ran an all-ages chess club, numerous scholastic chess clubs, and chess camps.  In the year prior to moving to the Carolinas, Jim's K-6 school club won the state team championship. Out of his scholastic work, Jim formed a small chess non-profit to support scholastic chess in the community.  


Jim has served as the Iowa State Chess Association President and Scholastic Chair.  


Jim is a National Tournament Director and FIDE Arbiter where he recently served as the Floor Chief for the National High School Chess Championship. Currently, Jim serves on several US Chess committees including the US Chess in Education Committee.


Jim is currently a Class A-rated chess player, a former Iowa Open Co-Champion, and Iowa Senior Champion.
