OVERVIEW

The Charlotte Senior Open is a 1-day event specifically for seniors ages 50 and over. There is a guaranteed prize fund of $400. The event is open to all seniors from any state. US chess membership is required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Participants must be members of the US Chess Federation

  • Must be at least 50 years old at the time of the event

One open section with class prizes.



TIME CONTROL

G/80; increment 10

Each player receives 80 minutes plus a 10 second increment to complete each game.

Round 1: 10:00am

Round 2: 1:30pm 

Round 3: 5:00pm

BYES

If you need to skip a round, you can request (1) half-point bye for a specific round. Byes must be requested at registration or via email before the tournament starts. Once the tournament begins, all requested byes are 0 points.


RULES

  • Limited to the first 42 entries.

  • Registration closes at 9:30am or when the capacity limit is reached.

  • US Chess live ratings used for pairings and prizes.

  • 1 optional half-point bye available, request at registration.

  • Weighted sets, digital clocks provided for all sections.

  • Accelerated pairings may be used at the director's discretion.

  • Prizes are not prizes by rating range, but are rather under prizes. A player may qualify for the highest prize available to them.

  • Refunds: $5 fee for refunds before the event; $10 fee for same-day; no refund after event begins
