OVERVIEW

Rated Scholastic-North is a 4-round US Chess-rated tournament for players in grades K-8 rated under 1500. It’s also suitable for unrated players looking to establish a US Chess rating. The event features three sections: Under 1500, Under 1000, and Under 500/Unrated.

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Players must be rated under 1500 or unrated - players over 1500 see events schedule for other opportunities.

  • Participants must be members of US Chess.

    • Need a US Chess Membership? Purchase through the CCC and save!

  • Open to K-8 participants (ages 13 and under)

  • Limited to first 42 to register.

  • Online registration only.

  • Registration closes 30 minutes prior to round 1 if not already full.

TIME CONTROL

G/20; inc/10

Each player receives 20 minutes plus a 10 second increment to complete the game.



ROUND TIMES

Round 1: 10:00am

Round 2: 11:00am 

Round 3: 12:30pm

Round 4: 1:30pm

Approximate end time/awards: 2:45pm

This is a CCC Grand Prix event!



TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS

Players who finish with a score of 2.5/4 or higher qualify to play the Tournament of Champions.

Use this link to withdraw from this event. Withdrawals close 30 minutes prior to round 1.

REGISTER

  • Limited to the first 42 entries.

  • Registration closes at 9:30am or when the capacity limit is reached.

  • 100-Point Rule: Players may only play up if their rating is within 100 points of the section limit. Example: A player rated 400 may play in the U1000 section but not a player rated 399.

  • US Chess live ratings used for pairings and sections.

  • US Chess Standard Tiebreaks used for prize distribution.

  • Byes: If you need to skip a round, you can request half-point byes for up to 2 rounds. Byes must be requested at registration or via email before the tournament starts. Once the tournament begins, all requested byes are 0 points. If you plan to play all rounds, do not request any byes.

  • All equipment provided.

  • Refunds: $5 fee for refunds before the event; $10 fee for same-day; no refund after event begins
