The Moms of the CCC had its first Queen's Social of the year on January 6th. Despite the inclement weather, over 20 mothers were in attendance and benefitted from a lecture on tactics given by FM Peter Giannatos. Topics covered included defense, in-between moves, and pins.
Attendees also learned of previously unannounced CCC initiatives while enjoying food and mingling with peers. The Queen's Social continues to be the first place to discover new events and programs that the Center will be undertaking.
At the end of the event, a raffle was held and three winners went home with orchids and $15 Starbucks gift cards.
The next Queen's Social will be held February 3, 2024 from 6pm - 8pm at the South Center. As always, there will be food, fun, and learning, but February's Social will also have time dedicated to preparing for the ChessKid National Festival. Mothers will learn how they can best support their children through a large-scale national tournament, amongst other things.
If you are the mother of a Charlotte Chess Center student and you have not done so already, be sure to sign up for the Moms of the CCC forum. The forum allows you to connect with other mothers, ask questions about upcoming events, discuss parenting a "chess kid," and--since our coaches are also on the forum--ask questions about chess itself.
Be sure to register for both the next Queen's Social and the Moms of the CCC forums at the links below.
