CHARLOTTE DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP

OVERVIEW

The Charlotte Doubles Championship is a unique event featuring a 2 vs 2 team format and a $1000 prize fund.  The event is 6 rounds at a rapid time control.

REGISTRATION

  • Teams must submit registration in one transaction – no individual registration by player.

  • Registration is online only – use the link at the bottom of the page.

  • All players must be members of the US Chess Federation

TIME CONTROL

G/10; increment 5

Each player receives 10 minutes plus a 5 second increment to complete each game. 

 

ROUND TIMES

Round 1: 10:30am

Round 2: 11:15am

Round 3: 12:00pm

Round 4: 1:30pm

Round 5: 2:15pm

Round 6: 3:00pm

 

FORMAT

  • One open section with overall and class prizes

  • Team vs team format – board 1 vs board 1, board 2 vs board 2

  • Pairings and prizes are based on team average rating.

  • ​Teams may have a maximum of one player rated above 2000.

BYES

If your team needs to skip rounds, you can request up to 3 half-point byes. Byes must be requested at registration or via email before the tournament starts. Once the tournament begins, all requested byes are 0 points.

Top “Mixed Doubles” Team (1 male / 1 female): $100 +plaque

Top Family Team: $100 + plaque

 

ENTRY FEE

$70.00 per team

No individual entry – must register as a team in 1 transaction

RULES

  • Limited to the first 30 teams (60 players).  No exceptions.

  • Registration closes at 10:00am or when the capacity limit is reached.

  • Teams are exactly 2 players – no alternates.

  • Players must play in rating order – equally rated teammates may choose board order.

  • Pairings and prizes are based on team average rating.

  • Unrated players may be assigned a tournament rating of 500-1000 for pairing/prize purposes.

  • ​Rating Cap: Teams may have a maximum of one player rated above 2000.

  • Match points are used for team standings and pairings.

  • Game points are used for board prizes.

  • No tiebreaks – all prize money is split equally between tied teams (and between teammates for team prizes).

  • June 2023 US Chess ratings used for pairings and prizes.

  • FIDE Rapid rules apply.

  • US Chess Quick rated and FIDE Rapid rated.

    • US Chess membership required.

    • Players without a FIDE ID number will be assigned one at no cost.

  • Boards, sets, clocks provided – must use our equipment.

  • Plaques to first place team, based on US Chess tiebreaks if necessary.

  • Refunds: $10 fee for refunds requested by June 15.  50% refunds after June 15 until 1 hour before round 1.  No refunds once event begins.
