OVERVIEW

Unrated Practice Tournaments are a great way for students to get involved in tournament competition. These are low stress events where CCC staff replicate the tournament setting for students. There is no better place to start competing than our unrated tournaments. 


NEW - In addition to individual prizes, Unrated Practice tournaments now offer team trophies to the top school teams! It is not required to be part of a school chess club or team to compete.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be in Pre K - 8th Grade

  • This event is primarily for unrated players.

  • Players with US Chess ratings under 300 may compete

  • Players with US Chess ratings 300+ should enter rated events

Grades PK-2

Grades 3-8



TIME CONTROL

G/10

Players receive 10 minutes each to complete the game.



ROUND TIMES 

Round 1: 10:30 am

Round 2: ASAP

Round 3: ASAP

Approximate end time: 11:45am - 12:00pm



PRIZES

All Students Receive a Medal. Medals Distributed Based on Score in the Tournament:

  • Gold Medal: 2.5 - 3.0 points

  • Silver Medal: 1.5 - 2.0 points

  • Bronze Medal: 0.0 - 0.5, or 1 point


All Gold Medalists Receive:

  • FREE US Chess membership

  • FREE CCC Rated Quad Entry



In addition to the above individual awards, team trophies will be awarded to the top 2 schools in each section.

CCC members and students in CCC school programs: $20.00

Non-members: $25.00

NOTES

  • Each event is limited to the first 42 entries.

  • Registration closes at 10:00am or when the capacity limit is reached.

  • All equipment provided.

  • Non-elimination - students play 3 games regardless of the outcome.

  • Great option for students easing their way into formal play.

  • School Teams:

    • School teams are a minimum of 2 players from the same school in the same section. The top 3 scores contribute to a team's score. US Chess tiebreaks used for team trophies if necessary.

    • It is not necessary to be part of a school chess club or team to play in the event or compete for individual prizes.

  • Prize Criteria:

    • Free US Chess membership only given to students who are not already registered with US Chess.

  • Refunds: $5 fee for refunds before the event; $10 fee for same-day; no refund after event begins
